You’re in for a treat!

In the early 1920’s, the Forsley family started the fun tradition of crafting handmade root beer at their home in New Gloucester, Maine.

As a young boy, Eli Forsley perfected the recipe and began selling root beer around the neighborhood. An entrepreneur was born!

In 1996, Eli’s son Fred, brimming with the same entrepreneurial spirit as his father, introduced the Forsley’s famous root beer to the public. That year the first pint of Capt’n Eli’s Root Beer was served at Federal Jack’s Restaurant and Brew Pub in Kennebunk, ME.

Today, Capt’n Eli’s is available in eight flavors: Root Beer, Ginger Beer, Cream, Diet Root Beer, Blueberry Pop, Strawberry Pop, Black Cherry Pop, and Orange Pop. All are caffeine and gluten free and made (except Diet Root Beer) with natural cane and brown sugars.

This Maine made soda line is handcrafted and distributed across the United States through our distribution partners. Soon, look for Capt’n Eli’s around the world!

Q: What’s the story behind Capt’n Eli’s Soda?

A: Capt’n Eli’s Soda is handcrafted on the coast of Maine. Founded by Fred Forsley in 1996, this soda affectionately honors his father, Eli Forsley, who, in his day, was widely known for making delicious homemade root beer. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and, after the war, was a pioneer in providing the mentally ill and disabled veterans a home where they could be a part of the community. We’re proud to have a soda named after him!

Note: the picture of the young boy on our packaging is also Eli Forsley, the grandson of Eli Forsley, and son of founder, Fred Forsley.

Today, Capt’n Eli’s Soda has grown to include eight flavors of caffeine and gluten free soda, all made (except Diet Root Beer) with natural cane and brown sugars.
